Trip 4 – Preaching in the Village of Mirebalais
Journal Entry – Thursday March 14, 2013
After leaving Hinche this morning we travel on to
Mirebalais, where
we are scheduled to preach again tonight.
As we’re sitting up front – literally 5 minutes before we’re supposed to
start – JT tells me that we need to make a change: Apparently, there is a big conflict that has
erupted between certain families in the church, and it is causing serious
division. JT asks me if I can preach
about this. (Like I said…we’re about 5
minutes from start time.) So here’s
another real God thing: I actually have
with me in my back pack the notes I’ve been working on for my class at Holland
Park this Sunday – which “just happens” to be on the subject of
dealing with personal offenses within the church, and the imperative to
maintain unity even if it means setting aside personal opinions and personal
preferences. Congregation responds enthusiastically
to the message, and JT says it’s just what they needed to hear…and then asks
me to preach the same sermon tomorrow when we go to Pageste.
