Trip 8 – More Baptisms at Delmas

Journal Entry – Sunday May 4, 2014 – Today at the Delmas 28 Church of Christ

Very intense day, as usual – Jeff, Johnny, and I have been pretty much full blast, non-stop from 8 o’clock this morning ‘til now.

Many of you have probably already heard about these things, but I wanted to share – favorite moment of the day, and saddest moment of the day.

Favorite moment: Jeff preaches this morning – 10 people come forward to be baptized.

Saddest moment: This was truly one of those “kick in the stomach” moments. We’re setting up to teach at the Preacher’s Training School this afternoon when Abel calls me by name and waves at me to come over (which actually startled me in and of itself – you know how quiet he is, and how seldom you actually hear him speak).

He’s trying to tell me something in Creole…“Pitit gason mwen te mouri.”

My auditory processing is still slow, so there’s a bit of lag time as my brain is interpreting – and then it hits me that he’s telling me that his son died.

“Ki lè?!” (When?!) I ask, stunned.

“Nan Mas.” (In March.)

I’m sure it was a blessing for the little boy, but still…
