When we got here on Saturday JT told us that just in the last 3 weeks alone there have been 17 baptisms at Delmas – another man came forward to be baptized after Johnny Israel preached yesterday, so that’s a total of 18 baptisms in 4 weeks. Pretty cool.
Jim Cain and I taught at the Preacher’s Training School yesterday, continuing the “Overview of the New Testament” that we started last year. I covered Colossians, and Jim covered 1 Thessalonians. Jim also preached at Delmas for the evening service last night.
Today is a somber day here in Port-au-Prince:
It’s the 5 year anniversary of the 2010 earthquake that killed more than
300,000 people right here in this immediate area. It struck me as a
little eerie when I realized just two weeks ago that we were going to be here
during this time frame – but kind of special also.
After we get done teaching at the Preacher’s Training School this
afternoon, we’re going to be assisting JT in conducting a memorial service at
the Delmas church building, which (as many of you probably know) was completely
destroyed in the earthquake, killing 36 nursing students and the director of
the nursing school.
So right now we’re in a holding pattern, waiting for JT, Bwa, and
Abel to pick us up – will post more updates as internet access allows!
