UPDATES FROM JT – APRIL 2019
Well drilling at the new St. Michel Orphanage property: The drilling crew started right after Easter. This is the same crew that successfully completed the well at Bout Savane. I hope to have good news for you soon!
Preachers’ Training School, gospel meetings, baptisms: Our former Preachers’ Training School graduates are performing with zeal and enthusiasm in their congregations, and we see a great future for the church in Haiti. The school currently serves 49 additional students who are in their second year of the 4-year program. We are very proud of these students, who continue to receive training in New Testament Greek and Old Testament Hebrew. In the first 4 months of 2019 these students conducted gospel meetings at Delmas, Pageste, and Dubuisson, resulting in 31 baptisms.
The current situation in Haiti: During this span of time we have experienced serious unrest in Haiti, and acts of violence. For 3 consecutive weeks the country was shut down as the chaos spread, and for 2 Sundays people could not go to church. Our church at Delmas continued to hold services, but many people could not come. During the last 33 years I’ve had the privilege to travel all over Haiti, and have written several papers about this country. I plan to present a book in January 2020 titled, “Why is Haiti so poor?” I will present 3 major reasons for this: 1) our geographic location, devastated by hurricanes, earthquakes, and disease; 2) disunity among the Haitian people – we have too many strifes, internal dissensions and conflicts, which are a threat to our governability; and 3) religious ignorance and confusion. In Hosea 4 God said, “My people are destroyed because of lack of knowledge.” Only God and his people can make a difference on this island, by sharing the liberating truth of the gospel with this people.
I want to conclude with a big thank you for your support and prayers – without you there is no way we could achieve all these things. We are praying God to bless you with health, strength, and success in your endeavors.
