Most of us who have been to Haiti would probably agree that one of the very coolest things about our involvement there has been the opportunity to develop many meaningful long-term relationships with the people there – many teens and adults who we now consider friends, and many children who we’ve – quite literally – watched grow up over the past 8 years.
As one example…the photos above are of Sherlonda, one of the little girls from the Cazeau Orphanage – the first photo (in which I somehow look oddly like a lizard) is from 2011, less than 24 hours into our very first Haiti trip; the second photo is from 12 days ago, on the last day of our most recent trip. Sherlonda is one of those kids who’s always seemed to make a special connection with many of our team members – looking back through all my old trip photos I found dozens of Sherlonda, at various ages, playing and interacting with our team – it’s like watching time-lapse photography of age 3 to 11.
