Answers to Your Questions!

(The photo above is JT Elmera, along with Emmanuel Mytil – Emmanuel was part of the first graduating class from the Preachers’ Training School in 2017, and now serves as the Dean of Students there and as Associate Minister for the Delmas 28 Church of Christ in Port-au-Prince – for Emmanuel’s full profile and our interview with him, go to https://thehaitifund.org/2020/04/25/preachers-training-school-graduate-profiles-1/)

A couple of questions I was asked recently are:

  • 1) Who are the teachers at the Preachers’ Training School?
  • 2) From the first graduating class, what percentage of the men are currently working with churches in some capacity?

First of all, a little context for those of you not familiar…

  • The Administrator of the program is Jeantyrard Elmera (“JT”), a Haitian minister with an MDiv from Harding Graduate School of Religion (JT may also have a DMin, but I’m not 100% sure about that)
  • In January of 2014, The Haiti Fund helped JT establish Delmas Christian University (which we informally refer to as the Preachers’ Training School) in Port-au-Prince
  • We also helped get DCU fully accredited with the Haitian Ministry of Education to grant 4-year baccalaureate degrees in Theology, Biblical Studies, and Practical Ministry
  • In December 2017 we graduated our first 36 students, and there are now 50+ students enrolled in the program who are on track to graduate this coming December.

I asked JT to weigh in on the two questions above, and here’s what I received back from him:

Greetings, in the midst of difficulties in Haiti we are doing relatively fine. I commend you for those two questions.

First of all, the teachers are from the churches of Christ here in Haiti, holding degrees in Bible and the disciplines they are teaching. We were blessed to have the brethren in the states who will send us teaching materials, and who also come teach at the school. We pray for volunteers to come and help us in this capacity.

We graduated 36 student four years ago and all of them are leading church work as pulpit ministers, teachers of the Bible, and missionaries. We see them performing what they have learned.

The students who graduate this December are going to expand Christianity all around the country. They are prepared and ready to go, we need to find a way to send them.

With love,

JT Elmera
