The photo above is of a little girl who came to our clinic yesterday in the town of Duty, about a 45 minute drive southwest of Cap Haitien. It has always struck me as a stunning irony that in the midst of some of the most horrifically impoverished conditions on the planet, Haitian children are – in my opinion – the most beautiful children on the planet (and how do they get those school uniforms so clean?!).
I got to do prayer station again for our final day of clinics. We saw about 200 people in total, pretty even mix of children and adults. The Duty church building is a sprawling complex which houses both a primary and a secondary school; since we were set up during normal school hours, we got to see all the kids in their uniforms.
Again, even the oldest kids got tootsie pops when they finished going through the clinic (I’m just not sure how this girl managed to get one that matched her school uniform!).
One thing I remember my daughter Bethany and I commenting on all the way back in 2011 on our first trip to Haiti is the joy of watching 12 year old girls be 12 year old girls – amazingly similar in any culture.
A few shots of the Duty church building and school complex – probably the biggest one any of our teams have been in, other than Delmas:
