Following up on my post from last week – this is Sonel and the work crew he’s leading, building the house for the widow and her children that I told you about (one of the projects The Haiti Fund provided some of the funding for) – looks like they’re making good progress!
Sonel posted these photos a few days ago with a note saying, “Hello friends and family. I am in the south of Haiti with the See Him Ministries construction team, trying to bless a family of 7 kids and get them out of the street – they lost everything they had. God is in full control!”
I was messaging back and forth with Sonel on Tuesday, and told him I wish I could come help with the earthquake relief, but everyone has kept telling me that it’s too unsafe for Americans to try to go out to the southern peninsula right now because of the gangs that control all roads leading out of Port-au-Prince to the south.
He responded, “Thanks brother. It is unsafe, that is true, but the need is big and we can’t sit and just look at things, and let these people go without help. My goal, my vision is to serve God, and as a servant I will serve. Hopefully God will bless this ministry so we can help more people out – please tell everyone, thanks for all your love and support.”
And, as some of you may have heard, two more earthquakes hit the southern peninsula on Tuesday – a magnitude 5.3 and a 5.1. Provisional assessments at this point are 2 dead, 52 injured, and 834 families with homes completely or partially destroyed. I haven’t got full details on this yet, but my understanding is that one of the people who was killed lived right next door to where Sonel and his team are building the house – so a pretty close call.
As always…lots and lots to pray about.
Oh, and speaking of stuff to pray about – I just found out I’ll be going back to Cap Haitien in March! More about that later on, but I definitely always appreciate prayers for that also!
