JT called me on Tuesday and said that the new housing for the children at the St. Michel Orphanage is on track to be finished by mid-July, which is actually ahead of our anticipated timeline!
(The photo above is from June 11 – it’s a little grainy, so it may be hard to make out – it’s a couple of the workers, digging out the foundations – all work done by hand, with no power tools.)
As many of you know, currently, all 35 children are living in transitional housing set up in two small classrooms at the St. Michel Church of Christ’s Elementary School. The Haiti Fund purchased land for new orphanage facilities in 2016, and we’ve been working ever since then to get permanent housing built for the children.
(For those of you not familiar with the “back-story” on our relationship with the St. Michel Church, School, and Orphanage – and why it’s become such a special place to all of our Haiti Fund team members – I’d encourage you to take a couple minutes and check it out at https://thehaitifund.org/orphan-care/.)
Many thanks again to all of you who’ve been praying for our Haitian brothers and sisters, and to those of you who’ve given financially to care for the children at the St. Michel Orphanage – we’re still a little short on funding for the housing project, but we’ll do whatever we need to do to get this thing done!
