Update on Bout Savane

Update on the church and school at Bout Savane…

Bout Savane is one of those places in Haiti that has always been incredibly special to all our past Haiti team members – JT Elmera first took us there in 2014, and we’ve been going back as often as possible ever since then.

Some of you may recall, this is the little remote village outside of St Michel where many people were dying because their only source of water had become contaminated, and after many months and much prayer we were able to get a well drilled there to supply safe water for the village.  JT also started a church there, and our 2017 summer team was able to visit the new church building that The Haiti Fund had helped them build.

(Our team members have always loved going to Bout Savane because, among other things, the hundred-or-so school children there were always the most remarkably well behaved and well mannered kids we’ve ever seen anywhere in Haiti. 😊)

(For the full back story on the history of our relationship with Bout Savane, plus stories and photos from all past trips there, go to https://thehaitifund.org/tag/bout-savane/).

We were able to start visiting Bout Savane again on our last two Haiti trips, the one in July (with Jeff & Cindy Payne and Louis Meilinger) and the one in December (with Jim & Carol Hopkins and Danny Vaden).   On the December trip we discovered that, just the month before, a tropical storm that hit the region had torn the roof of the Bout Savane school building completely off, making it unusable for the children.  The entire primary school, kindergarten through 6th grade, has been forced to have their classes in the church auditorium for the past three months, with the classes loosely divided off with blackboards – obviously not a great situation for the children (or the teachers).

Thanks to the many of you who have continued donating to our Disaster Relief fund, we were able to cover the costs of replacing the roof, and the children will be back in their school building this coming Monday!  They just finished the roof yesterday, and Rolin sent me some photos this morning:

Once again I find myself truly overwhelmed with gratitude – for your prayers, for your support, and especially for your love of our Haitian Christian brothers and sisters.
