Journal Entry – Monday August 1, 2011
Very different kind of day today – very intense, very physical, very hot.
Some stand out moments…
…Learning just enough Creole to give basic instructions to the kids during registration, and then all of them laughing at me for my obviously horrible pronunciation.
…Trying to get immersed in the ocean of kids, and start some – at least basic – conversations, with the little bit of English most of them know.
…Maybe the most touching moment: The squeals of delight from a little girl who found out that one of our U.S. team members is the brother of her sponsor – it’s very clear how grateful these kids are for their sponsors.
Note to self: Yeah, really got to learn as much Creole as I can before I come again.
