Follow Up On Tropical Storm Laura

From HaitiLibre.com – as of 7:30 this morning, the provisional assessment was as follows:

  • at least 9 people have been confirmed dead, including a 10-year old girl who was killed when a tree fell on her house
  • at least 2 people are still missing – Dr. Jessica Jeanniton, pediatrician at Bernard Mews Hospital, and her 10 month old baby
  • there is extensive flooding and property damage throughout the country
  • numerous houses have been flooded, destroyed or damaged and a number of roads blocked
  • many areas were under evacuation orders, but the situation was complicated by Covid restrictions in place at what would have normally been evacuation shelters

On the positive side, I have reached out to several of our contacts in Haiti and have been told by Ester and Roberde (daughter and son of Rolin, preacher in St. Michel) that everyone is ok there, “gras a Bondye” (thanks be to God).

On a related note, many of us have friends and family along the Gulf Coast of the United States, so please continue praying for all those who are still in the path of both Laura and Marco.
