We have not typically done this in the past, but on our upcoming April missions trip we’d like to be able to distribute some basic food staples in a few of the poorest villages that have been hardest hit by the current famine conditions in Haiti.
(In case you’re not aware, Haiti is currently in the throes of the most severe famine conditions ever recorded in the nation’s history. The United Nations World Food Program recently reported that for the very first time, parts of Haiti are now in “Level 5 Food Insecurity”, classified as “Famine – Humanitarian Catastrophe”, and that approx. 4.7 million people – about one-third of the population – are facing a severe food crisis, with childhood malnutrition skyrocketing. There are only 5 countries in the world currently classified at Level 5 – Haiti, Ethiopia, Somalia, South Sudan, and Afghanistan.)
Our ability to do this food distribution as part of our trip hinges solely on funding, so I’d appreciate it greatly if you’d consider helping us out with this. The estimates we’ve been given come out to about $140 per family per month for basic food staples (rice, beans, oil, spaghetti) – but any amount at all you’d be willing to give will definitely make a difference, and definitely have an impact.
If you’re willing to help out:
Thank you again for all your love, support, encouragement, and assistance in helping us minister to “the least of these” in the most desperate of circumstances.
